Matt Wiseley (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) came back with his third double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in West Chester's victory over Seton Hill, 68-58, inside the McKenna Center Wednesday evening.
West Chester (7-8, 5-5 PSAC) out-rebounded Seton Hill 43-17, including 26-4 on the offensive end, for 21 second-chance points. Despite shooting 55-percent from the field, Seton Hill could not get over the hump since leading in the first half and being down a point going into the break.
The Griffins (3-10, 2-7 PSAC) had an early lead, but Wiseley gave the Golden Rams the lead with a jumper from the elbow followed by a reverse layup for back-to-back buckets off of two turnovers heading into the first media timeout. Wiseley also helped out on the defensive end with five steals, including a steal and a pass to
Raheem Hall (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) for the bucket and the foul on a 5-2 run to begin the second half.
West Chester began to break away in the second half after a 10-0 run with 11 minutes to go in the game. The run included three steals, two layups, one 3-pointer and three free throws. Then, consecutive dunks by Spencer Casson, cut the lead back to 11. But,
Ben Mingledough (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) returned the favor with two dunks of his own, including his first dunk off a give-and-go from teammate
Cory Blake (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) to regain the momentum for the remainder of the game.
Eric Frans (Lehigh, Pa./Saucon Valley) matched a season-high 15 points to lead the Golden Rams, to go with seven rebounds, all at the offensive end of the court. Hall ended with 11 points, shooting 4-for-5 from the field in the win. West Chester's leading scorer, Blake, was held to two points, but ended with four rebounds and five steals to create buckets off the fast-break.
Griffins' Kameron Taylor matched his season average with 10 points in the first half, but bested his average with 19 points to lead his team, before fouling out with a little less than six minutes to go in the game. Griffins' leading scorer David Windsor (16.5 ppg) was held to four points in the first half and only three points in the second half, which was a huge key factor down the stretch.
The Golden Rams concluded PSAC crossover play and will now get ready for a showdown against PSAC East rival Bloomsburg on Saturday at 3 p.m.
