Box Score SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Soph., forward
Giovanni Mowrey (Bethlehem, Pa. / Notre Dame Green Pond) scored his second goal of the season to give West Chester an early 1-0 lead, but was not enough as Slippery Rock came back to win 2-1 in overtime inside Mihalik-Thompson Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Rams (5-6-3, 3-4-1 PSAC) had a 5-1 advantage in corn kick opportunities but could not capitalize in regulation. The Rock (9-5, 5-3 PSAC) had only three shots on goal in the first period, but one of them got pass the goalkeeper to force an extra period.
Mowrey scored on his first shot of the day off a deflection by
Cody Eberly (Mountville, Pa. / Hempfield) to put West Chester up 1-0 early in the 29th minute of the first period.
Rocks' Matt Sangermano found the back of net on a header for the game-winning goal for his second goal on the day off a cross-pass toward the front on the goal from teammate Peter Boylan Sangermano recorded his first goal with ten minutes left reaming in the first period to knot it up at one goal apiece going into the half. Boylan provided an assist on play as well from the same side of the field.
Goalkeeper Steve Rerick played in all 91 minutes of play making six saves on 19 shots faced to help Slippery Rock pull out a one-goal victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Matt Palmer (Bangor, Pa. / Bangor) made five saves on 15 shots that came his way in 91 minutes, allowing two goals in the loss.
Both goalies during the game had to take chances by coming out of the goal to make incredible catches in order to restore play and punt the ball out of their respective zones.
West Chester will look to bounce back at home as they welcome in Lock Haven on Oct. 21st at 2:30 p.m.
