West Chester Pulls It Together In Second Half For 33-9 Road Win

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – So., QB Pat Moriarty (Gladwyne, Pa./Harriton) went 19-for-38 for 185 yards and threw three touchdowns, and Brandon Monk (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) returned a kickoff 96 yards for a score, to lead West Chester (3-2, 2-0 PSAC) to a 33-9 victory over host Lock Haven (0-5, 0-2) in a steady rain at Hubert Jack Stadium Saturday.
 
West Chester outscored Lock Haven, 24-0, after halftime to break a 9-9 deadlock at the break. Brendan Paulison's (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) 32-yard field goal as time expired in the first half pulled the Golden Rams even. West Chester held Lock Haven to 38 yards of total offense after halftime, including just three total yards in the third quarter.
 
Lock Haven jumped on top early with a 40-yard TD pass from QB Caleb Walton on the Eagles' opening drive. However, Monk brought back the ensuing kickoff 96 yards to take the wind out of the hosts' sails. Both extra point attempts failed on those TDs, leaving the game at 6-all.
 
Lock Haven kicked a 20-yard field goal to answer Monk's kickoff return and put the home team on top, 9-6.
 
Adam Dempsey (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) caught an 18-yard touchdown strike from Moriarty, and Paulison nailed a 31-yard field goal, in the the third quarter to push West Chester out in front, 19-9, entering the fourth quarter. That is where Shannon Mayer (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) and Tim Brown (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) each caught a TD pass to salt away the game.
 
Monk finished with 161 all-purpose yards, adding 65 yards rushing to his totals on Saturday. Jarel Elder (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) racked up 137 all-purpose yards, leading all rushers with 72 yards on the ground and adding 18 receiving yards and 47 kickoff return yards to his totals.
 
Defensively, Pete Galiano (Haddon Heights, N.J./Camden Catholic), Nydair Rouse (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz) and Drew Formica (Newtown Square, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) each intercepted a pass, and Mike Catalano (Pilesgrove, Pa./St. Mark's) blocked a kick. Rouse finished with three passes defensed in the game. He finished with a team-high seven tackles.
 
West Chester returns home next Saturday to host PSAC East rival Kutztown at Farrell Stadium at 1 p.m.
