Women’s Tennis Shuts Out St. Thomas Aquinas

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University's women's tennis squad showed strong conviction and determination in a 9-0 non-league shutout over visiting St. Thomas Aquinas College on South Campus Wednesday afternoon.

West Chester (2-0) came back strong following perhaps one of its biggest wins in the last decade – a 5-4 victory over Slippery Rock last Saturday. It was the Golden Rams' first win over The Rock since 2005 and ended a four-match losing streak to their rivals from the West. St. Thomas Aquinas (6-6) fell to .500 on the year with the loss.

Wednesday, West Chester did not show any signs of a letdown as doubles pair Claire Uhle (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) and Maddy Shaak (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon County) picked up a win at first doubles and then each won at first and second singles, respectively.

Katina Jones (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) and Rylee Power (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) were winners at second doubles as well as third and fourth singles. Nicole Fahringer (Northfield, Pa./Mainland Regional) were winners at fifth and sixth singles. Fahringer teamed up with Alyssa Rees (Morgantown, W.Va./University) at third doubles for a win as well.

West Chester battles Chestnut Hill on Friday at 12 p.m. in its next-to-last match of the fall season.
