West Chester Flys Past Lock Haven Enroute To First Conference Victory

Box Score

West Chester, Pa. – Sr., Matt Wiseley (Emmaus, Pa. / Emmaus) grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds and scored 11 points for his second double-double of the season to lift West Chester over Lock Haven 85-58 for their first conference win of the season inside Hollinger Fieldhouse Wednesday night.

The Golden Rams (2-0) landed five players registering double-figures in points and provided them a nice 27-point cushion throughout the game. Lock Haven could get any shot to off from beyond-the-arc, going 0-for-12 total in a full 40 minutes.

Off a steal at the 8:26 mark, Matt Penecale (Jenkintown, Pa. / Abington) tossed the ball in the air to Avery Brown to complete the alley-oop. Then after a miss 3-pointer by Brown, Mike Wilson (Lansdowne, Pa. / Penn Wood)  grabbed it in mid-air for the  put back causing Lock Haven to call a timeout (19-10).

Fr., G Malik Jackson (Lansdowne, Pa. / Penn Wood) led the team with 16 points, to go with five rebounds, three steals, and two assists in his second game as Golden Ram.

Jackson found 6'5 Jackson Hyland (Avondale, Pa. / Kennett), breaking through the full court press with a back side cut to the basket. Seconds later, Penecale stole the ball and made a move straight to the hoop for a score. He then passed it to Hyland again to create an 18-point lead with 11:19 to go in the second half.

Wiseley would hit on a fast break opportunity with a one-handed slam to regain the momentum and push the Golden Rams toward the three-straight buckets to stretch out the margin. He captured 15 of his 21 rebounds and nine of this 11 total points in the second half alone.

Sophomore Josh Trumpy (Camp Hill, Pa. / Trinity) and Hyland both put up 14 points and combined for nine rebounds at the forward positions. Forward Thomas White (Chester, Pa. / Penn Wood) added 11 points, 4-for-8 in the paint, including a dunk in the first half. White also assisted a running Brown down the lane for the two-handed dunk to go up 13 after the defense double teamed him in a half-court setting.

Lock Haven would cut it to four at 29-25, but WCU went on a 9-0 run in the final minute and 30 seconds left in the half. Back-to-back threes by Jalil Myers (Philadelphia, Pa. / Imhotep Charter) and Jackson boosted the Golden Rams lead in the small amount of time. Then Jackson with 4.2 seconds left in the half took the ball off a turnover and drove it down the lane to put WCU up 12 points going into the break (38-26).

Bald Eagles' guard Brahieme Jackson recorded a double-double with a team high 14 points and 10 rebounds to open conference play. Forward Tracy Peal went 4-for-9 from the field for 13 points in the first PSAC loss.

West Chester hits the road for a four-game road trip beginning this weekend with PSAC West opponents Pitts-Johnstown (11/21) at 1 p.m. and Indiana (11/22) at 5:30 p.m.
