No. 3 West Chester Advances In PSAC Tournament With 6-1 Win At No. 7 Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Third-ranked West Chester University scored three goals in each half en route to a 6-1 victory over host Kutztown University in a PSAC field hockey quarterfinal round match at Andre Reed Stadium Tuesday evening.

West Chester (16-3) advances to the semifinals to play top-seed and host East Stroudsburg (15-3) on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Whitenight Field. The Golden Rams avenged one of their three losses this fall with the win over Kutztown (12-7).

Sr., Alexis Versak (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford) finished with two goals while Marnie Kusakavitch (PIttston, Pa./Holy Redeemer) posted two goals and one assist. So., Rachal Toppi (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) scored her 20th goal of the year in the 60th minute, marking the second straight season in which the forward has reached that plateau in a single season.

The Golden Rams outshot the Bears by a whopping 38-4 margin, including not allowing a single shot in the second half. So., goalkeeper Brianna Magner (Egg Harbor, N.J./Egg Harbor Twp.) made just one save in earning her 10th win of the season. Kutztown's Kayla Denlinger made 15 saves while the Bears' also recorded four defensive saves on the night.

Sr., F Alayna Brown (Telford, Pa./Souderton) got things started early when her one-timer hit the back of the cage four minutes into the match. Kutztown tied the game in the 23rd minute off a penalty corner. Kusakavitch and Versak scored the first of their two goals each four minutes apart late in the first half to stake the Rams to a 3-1 advantage heading into the break.

From there, West Chester blitzed Kutztown with three goals over a four-minute span to put the game out of reach. Kusakavitch and Versak, again, went back-to-back two minutes apart, before Toppi closed out the scoring.

West Chester, the defending PSAC Tournament champions, have another opportunity to avenge one of its three regular-season losses on Friday against East Stroudsburg.
