Box Score 2 WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Left-hander Nick Stallings kept Bloomsburg off balance in the nightcap of a PSAC East baseball doubleheader to help the hosts secure a split of the two games Sunday afternoon at Serpico Stadium. Bloomsburg took the opener 5-2 while West Chester rebounded for an 11-8 win in the second game.
West Chester (8-7, 6-4 PSAC East) handed Bloomsburg (6-4, 5-1) its first conference loss in the closer. Stallings (3-0) remained unbeaten on the year. He threw 6.1 innings, allowing eight runs, six of them earned, on nine hits while walking four and striking out six.
Drew Diehl went 3-for-5 in the nightcap with a pair of RBI and a pair of runs scored. His grounder to short with two outs and nobody on in the fifth inning opened up the flood gates and led to a six-run frame that broke the game wide open. West Chester scored six runs on only one hit and was aided by a pair of Bloomsburg errors.
West Chester scored three runs in the fourth, six in the fifth and one more in the sixth to take an 11-5 lead into the top of the seventh. Bloomsburg scored three times in the seventh, but could not complete the comeback bid. Seven of the starting nine hitters in the Rams' batting order collected a hit in the second game.
In the opener, Bloomsburg scored four runs in the first inning and one unearned run in the second to take a 5-0 lead on West Chester starter Eric Close (1-2). However, reliever Alec Schwartz came on in relief and threw five innings of scoreless ball. West Chester just could not get anything going on Huskies' starter Tyler Hill (4-0). Tyler Coleman hit a sacrifice fly, and Joey Coyle had a RBI groundout.
West Chester and Bloomsburg will conclude their four-game conference series Monday afternoon at Litwhiler Field in Bloomsburg, Pa.
