SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - West Chester University's women's tennis squad shut out host Shippensburg, 9-0, and took another step closer to clinching at least a share of the PSAC Eastern Division title as a result Monday afternoon.
West Chester (6-8, 4-0 PSAC East) sits atop the conference standings. The Golden Rams can clinch the division title with a win over cross-county rival Cheyney on April 7.
West Chester swept both the doubles and the singles competitions to complete the shutout. Claire Uhle and Maddy Shaak teamed up for their 13th consecutive win at first doubles, 8-1. Nicole Fahringer and Alyssa Rees were 8-3 winners at second doubles while Abriana Nolan and Amalie Hartman were 8-0 winners at third doubles.
The first four singles positions for West Chester were all 6-0, 6-1 winners. Uhle, Shaak, Nolan and Cassidy Branigan racked up those wins. Rees was a 6-4, 6-0 winner at fifth singles, and Kristen Wong was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at sixth singles. Uhle registered her 17th win of the 2014-15 campaign as she closes in on the magical 20-win season.
West Chester travels to Holy Family on Thursday for a non-conference affair.
