West Chester Tops Philadelphia University

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Dylan Tice went 4-for-6 with three runs scored, and Anthony Salomone was 3-for-4, as hos t West Chester defeated visiting Philadelphia University, 16-1, in a non-league baseball game at Serpico Stadium Tuesday afternoon.
 
West Chester (11-7) extended its winning streak to four straight with the win over regional rival Philadelphia U (6-9). The two schools dodged rain drops amidst seasonally comfortable temperatures all afternoon, but got the entire nine-inning game in without interruption.
 
The Golden Rams exploded for seven run in the first inning and four more in the second to take a commanding 11-0 lead. Nine of West Chester's first 10 hits in the ballgame were singles. Mike Gannon's first career home run was the only extra-base hit in the first inning.
 
Tice matched his season high of four hits in the contest while Salomone continues to swing a hot bat. The third baseman is now 6-for-8 with five RBI in his last two games.
 
Six West Chester pitchers combined on a six-hitter while only allowing one run. Starter Joe Gutowski (2-1) struck out four batters in four innings of work. Pat Cummings struck out three of the four people he faced in the sixth.
 
West Chester opens a four-game PSAC East series with Mansfield this weekend. The Golden Rams are scheduled to be home Friday and at Mansfield on Saturday.
