Baseball Splits Twinbill With Lock Have

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – After sweeping Lock Haven at their place yesterday, the Golden Rams registered a doubleheader split with the Bald Eagles at home Sunday by losing game one, 4-3, but winning game two, 6-2, inside Serpico Stadium.

The Golden Rams (17-8, 13-5 PSAC East) had a back and forward game one where they would be down 1-0 in the first inning and then go up by one in a one run loss. They would find themselves down 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth until pinch-hitter Robert Knox (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) delivered a sacrifice fly to bring in Clay Harwick (Lansdale, Pa./Methacton) to tie the ball game. Lock Haven (9-19, 8-12) would get that run back in its half of the seventh as Tyson Petersheim hit a RBI single to put the Golden Eagles up for good a 4-3 game one win.

First baseman, Justin Roman was the RBI man today as he went a combined 3-for-7 at the plate, with a triple, knocking in four RBI, and run scored. He also had the play of the day, stealing third base on a wild pitch and kept running for the third run of the game.

Sophomore Anthony Salmone (Dillsburg, Pa./North York) got the start at third base and cashed in with a 3-for-6 line for the day with the Golden Rams second triple of the day, adding an RBI, while reaching home plate on a fielding error in the bottom of the fourth in game two. Harwick went 2-for-3 in game one, hitting a double and scoring two runs to put the Golden Rams in a spot to come back again.

Pitcher Matt Petrizzi (Levittown, Pa./Conwell-Egan) went the distance for his third complete game of the season, improving to 3-2 on the year. He allowed two runs; one earned on four hits two walks, while striking out six. Game one pitcher, Andrew Gernert (Lenhartsville, Pa./Kutztown) went seven innings as well, keeping his team in the game, despite giving up 14 hits and four walks. He only allowed four runs through that stretch, getting himself out of jams, leaving at least one runner on base in each inning.

West Chester now has a day to relax before heading down Broad Street to Citizens Bank Park to take on Wilmington (Del.) in the finals of the Bill Giles Classic on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. This will be a rematch of last year's finals where Wilmington defeated the Golden Rams, 7-2.
