West Chester Baseball Sweeps East Stroudsburg At Home

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University's baseball team pulled out a doubleheader sweep against PSAC East rival East Stroudsburg by scores of 4-3 and 10-5 on a 75-degree Saturday afternoon at Serpico Stadium.

The Golden Rams (20-8, 15-5 PSAC East) reached their 20th win of the season to remain in second place behind Millersville University in the league standings. They would put it all together with a walk-off RBI-double in their half the seventh in game one. West Chester created a seven-run lead in game two and never looked back.

East Stroudsburg (22-13, 10-12) came all the way back from three-runs down to tie it in the top of the seventh inning of game one. But, Robert Knox, who led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk, scored all the way from first base on a double by Bill Ford to hand over the win. The Golden Rams posted an 8-1 lead, taking advantage of four errors in the nightcap. ESU made things interesting, loading the bases in the seventh and scoring two runs to cut the lead in half. However, those would be the only runs in the inning as back-to-back hitters popped up to first base and second base to conclude the sweep for West Chester.

Left-handed pitcher, Nick Stallings remained perfect on the season at 6-0, allowing three runs in 4 1/3 innings with seven walks and two strikeouts in game two. Sophomore righty, Andrew Gernert improved to 3-2 after pitching a complete game, allowing only three runs on eight hits, three walks, while striking out five in the opener.

Third baseman, Anthony Salomone had four RBIs and scored one run off a 4-for-8 day at the plate. Bill Ford hit the game-winning double in game one and provided another run in game two for a .500 batting average on the afternoon.

Justin Roman scored three runs and knocked in another while Dylan Tice went 2-for-5 with a RBI, run scored and three walks. Matt Pertrizzi hit a two-run triple in game one and a sacrifice fly to give the Golden Rams the lead in the first game.

West Chester hits the road to play East Stroudsburg at their place to conclude the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
