Mercyhurst Squeeks Past West Chester In Double OT, 3-2

Box Score

ERIE, Pa. – Joseph Korb knocked in a rebound in the 102nd minute to lift host Mercyhurst to a 3-2 double-overtime victory at the MU Soccer Complex Friday afternoon.

West Chester (1-2, 0-1 PSAC) battled back from two deficits in the game to knot things up by the end of regulation. However, Mercyhurst (1-2, 1-0) was able to take advantage in the OT to come out with a win.

Brian Schaefer (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) scored his first goal of the year on a penalty kick in the 29th minute to tie things up at 1-1 in the first half. Mercyhurst's Michael Lennox's header in the 19th minute had put the hosts up 1-0.

The Lakers' Thomas Davis restored the host's one-goal lead in the 37th minute, before Kody Eberly (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) scored his first career goal 37 seconds before halftime. That is the way the game stood for the next 57 minutes when Korb buried a rebound of a shot by Thom Derks in the second overtime.

Matt Palmer (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) made seven saves, going the distance in the net. Schaefer picked up an assist on Eberly's goal to finish the afternoon with three points.

West Chester continues its weekend stay in Erie, Pa., with a contest at Gannon University Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m.
