West Chester Hangs On for 3-2 Win Over Shippensburg.

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester combined for three goals from three different players to squeak past Shippensburg, 3-2, inside Rockwell Field Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Rams (3-3-2, 2-2-0 PSAC) struck first as freshman midfielder Kyle Hoops (Phoenixville, Pa. / Great Valley) picked his spot with traffic in front of the net and surprised the Shippensburg's goalkeeper with a shot that landed in the left corner of the net for the goal. Shippensburg (4-4-0, 1-4-0 PSAC) out-shot WCU 13-12, but it was not enough as West Chester converted three of their four total shots on goal into points.

Max Adarkwah (Accra, Ghana / Phelps School (Pa.) headed in a shot off a corner kick by teammate Roberto Silva (Kennett Square, Pa. / Kennett) to put the Golden Rams back on top, 2-1. Silva recorded two assists in the game, including on the goal from Hoops in the first half off a corner kick as well.

Then seven minutes later, forward Miguel Ross (Pottstown, Pa. / Pottstown) broke free through the Red Raider's defensive zone and quickly passed it to an open Brain Schaefer (Dresher, Pa. / Upper Dublin) right in front of the goal for the score. Schaefer's second goal of the season turned out to be the deciding factor in the victory.

West Chester goalkeeper Matt Palmer (Bangor, Pa. / Bangor) played all 90 minutes, making six saves and preventing the Red Raiders from scoring in the final minutes down the stretch.

Red Raiders' Jake Shefsky scored the tying goal at the 27-minute mark to send both teams into halftime knotted up at one apiece. Roberto Furfaro added the second goal in the loss.

West Chester will bring that momentum with them as they travel to Millersville on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
