COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - West Chester University gymnasts captured first place in both the balance beam and floor exercise to pace the Golden Rams to a 188.8-187.4 victory over host Ursinus College in the 2016 season opener Tuesday afternoon.
West Chester (1-0) also claimed the top two all-around scores in the win over Ursinus (0-1).
Majesta Valentine (Wilmington, Del.) took first place on the balance beam with a score of 9.675 while also claiming the all-around victory with a combined score of 37.975. Valentine also placed second on the uneven bars with a score of 9.625.
Lindsay Knapp (Collegeville, Pa.) won the floor exercise with a score of 9.675 in her final visit back home in front of friends and family. She also finished fourth on the beam with a 9.375.
Samantha Engle (Beaver Falls, Pa.) was runner-up on the vault with a 9.625.
Rachel Blair (Telford, Pa.) and
Selena Swanger (Gettysburg, Pa.) tied for third with a 9.6 each. Swanger was second all-around with a combined score of 37.525.
Rose Wortman (Bellefonte, Pa.) placed third on the beam with a score of 9.425.
The Golden Rams return home to Sturzebecker Health Science Center Saturday to welcome SUNY Cortland and Rhode Island College in the team's home opener.
