Men's Swimming & Diving Sweeps TCNJ and Hopkins

EWING TWP., N.J. - Victor Polyakov (Taganrog, Russia)
won three events and helped the 200-yard medley relay to a win as visiting West Chester topped both The College of New Jersey and Johns Hopkins in a non-league tri-meet at the TCNJ Aquatics Center Wednesday afternoon.

West Chester (8-1) qualified a diver for NCAAs while Polyakov, again, hit an NCAA 'B' time in one of his event victories as the Golden Rams outdistanced host TCNJ, 175-124, and scored a 175-116 win over Johns Hopkins.

Polyakov started out the meet by swimming the lead leg of the 200 medley relay that posted a winning time of 1 minute, 33.77 seconds. He teamed up with Thomas McCormick (West Chester, Pa./Henderson), Luke Maguire (Conshohocken, Pa./LaSalle) and Evan Sherkness (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh). Polyakov also won the 200 freestyle in 1:42.52, the 200 backstroke in 1:53.63 and the 500 free in an NCAA 'B' time of 4:37.97.

Michael Oliver (Howell, N.J./Freehold Twp.) won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:05.39 and placed second in the 400 individual medley, touching the wall in 4:08.74. McCormick placed third in both the 200 breast (2:11.99) and 400 IM (4:12.08). Maguire collected the only other first-place time in the 100 butterfly. He touched out in 51.14 seconds.

Daniil Sokman (Russia) posted a pair of second-place efforts in the 100 backstroke (53.76) and the 100 free (48.20). Sherkness was runner up in the 50 free (21.46) while Eric Long (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) was second in the 200 butterfly (1:58.61).

Diver Dan Roy (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) won each of the diving events, hitting NCAA qualifying standards in the process. He won the 1-meter springboard competition with a score of 310.73, before taking the 3m event with a combined score of 361.13. Jonas Ricci (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area) was second in the 1m event with a 272.10 while Luke Kisiel (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville) was third in teh 1m (257.48) and fourth in the 3m.

West Chester will travel down to The Sunshine State on Thursday and compete in the South Florida Relays on Sunday. The divers will host the WCU Invitation on Jan. 16.
