West Chester Men Open With Tri-Meet Win At Southern Conn. State

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – West Chester's men's swimming team recorded seven first-place finishes en route to a tri-meet win over PSAC rival Shippensburg and host Southern Connecticut State University Saturday afternoon.
 
West Chester topped SCSU, 289.5-77.5 and Shippensburg, 294-63.
 
Dylan North was a double winner for the Golden Rams, taking first place in the 1650-yard freestyle and the 200 backstroke.
 
Evan Sherkness won the 50 freestyle in a time of 21.98 seconds. He also  led off the 400 free relay team that finished second to the Golden Rams' other relay entrant squad. In fact, West Chester finished first and second in both the 400 free relay and the 200 medley relay on Saturday.
 
Michael Oliver won the 200 breaststroke as the Golden Rams captured the top three spots in that event. Shota Nakano was runner-up, and Mason Azais was third. West Chester also took the top three spots in the 200 free. Victor Polyakov won the event in 1:42.99 while Tommy Tomsuden and Sean White were right behind him in second and third, respectively. White also finished third in the 50 free and swam the anchor leg of the 400 free relay that was second.
 
Polyakov was a double winner on Saturday as well. In addition to the 200 free, the three-time PSAC swimmer of the year, won the 200 individual medley.
 
Austin Doss won the 100 butterfly in 52.84. He also led off the 400 free relay that won the event and led off the 200 medley relay that placed first as well.
 
On the diving board, Dan Roy won the 3-meter springboard competition with a score of 326.47 while Luke Kisiel finished third with a 243.37.
