WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University's men's soccer squad shut out visiting Slippery Rock, 3-0, on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Rockwell Field to keep pace with the other leaders of the pack in the PSAC.
The Golden Rams (9-3-2,6-1-1 PSAC) jumped past Millersville, who was playing a non-league match, and into second place in the league standings while Slippery Rock (3-8-3, 2-4-2) dropped its fourth league tilte of the season.
Kyle Hoops (Phoenixville, Pa./Great Valley) tapped in a nice header from
Tim French (Bensalem, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) in the 38th minute to give West Chester a 1-0 halftime lead. Miguel Ross then knocked in a loose ball in the 80th minute, after Slippery Rock's goalkeeper dropped the ball out by the edge of the 6-yard box.
Colin Hester (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) added an insurance goal with two minutes left in the game.
James Wood (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) made a pair of saves to pick up the shutout.
At halftime of the game, the 1961 West Chester University men's soccer team was honored in a brief ceremony. That team won the NCAA national championship 55 years ago with a perfect 13-0 record and a win over St. Louis University in the title game.
West Chester travels to Lock Haven on Wednesday for another PSAC contest.
