West Chester Runs Past East Stroudsburg, 41-14

Box Score

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Jarel Elder (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) rushed for 118 yards and Eerin Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) added 110 rushing yards as visiting West Chester defeated host East Stroudsburg by the score of 41-14 in a PSAC East football contest at Eiler-Martin Stadium Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (6-3, 5-1 PSAC East) racked up 386 yards on the ground to go along with four rushing touchdowns, all of which fueled a 21-point fourth quarter en route to the win over ESU (4-5, 2-4). Nydair Rouse (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz) returned an interception 28 yards for the final touchdown of the game.

Pat Moriarty (Gladwyne, Pa./Harriton) (10-for-28) hit Tyler Karpinski (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) on an 8-yard TD throw with :20 left in the first half to give the Golden Rams a 13-7 lead it would not relinquish just before halftime. Mike Class (Souderton, Pa./Pennridge) ran in from six yards out to cap off the opening drive of the second half and put West Chester in front, 20-7.

WCU put the game away with a pair of TD runs in the fourth quarter that preceded Rouse's INT return. Elder got into the end zone from two yards out for his second score of the game, and Young found paydirt from five yards away.

Moriarty finished with 94 yards passing and the one TD. He did not throw an interception. He also added another 52 yards rushing in the game that included a 19-yard scamper.

Defensive back, Shaquille James (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic), led the stop unit's effort with seven tackles on the day. Blaise Schieler (Lansdowne, Pa./West Catholic) broke up a pair of passes and had a pair of tackles. West Chester limited East Stroudsburg to just 58 offensive plays and 31 rushing yards in the game. Robert Healy finished with 57 yards on the ground and one rushing touchdown.

The Golden Rams had a pair of running backs eclipse 100 yards rushing in the same game for the 19th time in school history and the first since Nov. 29, 2014 at Concord in a playoff game. West Chester's 386 rushing yards marks the sixth-best team effort as well and is the most since running for a school-record 456 against Millersville in 2013. WCU's 58 rushing attempts were the third most in a game in school history. West Chester extended its winning streak to four straight over East Stroudsburg while picking up its 60th win in the 82nd meeting between the two rivals. With the four wins, West Chester's senior class will graduate a perfect 4-0 against the Warriors – the first class to do that since the 1990 squad.

West Chester returns home next Saturday for a 12:05 p.m. kickoff against Millersville at John A. Farrell Stadium on Senior Day. The graduating senior members of the football team, cheerleading squad and incomparable marching band will be recognized in a pre-game ceremony.
