EDINBORO, Pa. – Sophomore guard
Malik Jackson (Lansdowne, Pa./Penn Wood) scored a season-high 30 points en route to an 81-70 PSAC men's basketball victory for visiting West Chester over host Edinboro Sunday afternoon inside McComb Fieldhouse.
West Chester (4-4, 3-1 PSAC) stopped a two-game losing streak by splitting a pair of conference games on the road this past weekend. Edinboro (2-5, 0-4) saw its losing skid extend to five straight.
Jackson led for Golden Rams in double figures on the afternoon.
Jackson Hyland (Avondale, Pa./Kennett) added 16 points, and
Matt Penecale (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington) contributed 15. Hyland dished out five assists.
Thomas White (Chester, Pa./Penn Wood) put up 10 points off the bench .
Jackson, who leads the PSAC in scoring (23.3 ppg), posted his first 30-point game of the season and the third of his young career. He hit a 3-pointer three minutes into the second half that gave the Golden Rams the lead for good, 42-37. That sparked a 23-4 run over the next six minutes that enabled the hosts to take control of the game for good.
Hyland posted five points, two rebounds a steal and a blocked shot during the decisive run. He finished with six rebounds and five assists on the day as well. Jackson added seven points, and Penecale contributed six over that run as well. A 3-ball from Hyland midway through the second half extended the Rams' advantage to 20 (65-45).
West Chester forced Edinboro into 24 turnovers and allowed the Scots to get off just 48 shots in the game.
Jaymon Mason scored 30 points for Edinboro in the loss.
West Chester is off until Dec. 10 when the Golden Rams head back out to Erie, Pa. to take on Mercyhurst in a rematch of the 2016 PSAC Men's Basketball Championship Game last March. Tip is set for 3 p.m. next Saturday.
