Kendall Benovy (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) matched her season-high in points by scoring 21 to help West Chester outlast Mansfield inside Hollinger Field House Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Rams (18-5, 15-4 PSAC) upped their winning-streak to 10 games with three games to go in the regular season. Mansfield (6-16, 3-15 PSAC) battled back throughout the game, but could not stop West Chester, allowing them to score 10 points on the fast break. They would cut the deficit to three, but a 10-0 run by the Golden Rams put them ahead by double-digits for the first time all game, taking a 13-point lead at the end the half, leading by 10, 37-27.
West Chester opened up a game-and-a-half lead on second-place Shippensburg in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division standings as a result of the Raiders' upset loss at Cheyney Saturday. The Golden Rams have three games remaining on their 2015-16 schedule and are two games up in the loss column on Ship now.
Dallas Ely (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) finished second on the team with 16 points, to go with five rebounds and four assists. She now has 1.530 career points in her quest to catch the all-time leading scorer, Kiesha Mack (2000-05), who scored 1,556 points in her career.
Guard
Jasmen Clarke (Temple, Pa./Oley Valley) and center
Anna Kuntz (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity) each recorded 11 points, while
Brittany Sicinski (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) scored 10 points and a team-high eight assists in the 10-point victory. Sicinski, also chasing Ely and the school's all-time scoring record, has 1,522 career points, following Saturday's win.
Mountaineers' Katie Fitzpatrick scored a team-high 18 points, 11 in the first half, in the loss. Brielle Kelly added 11 points and seven rebounds while teammate Princella McCullough added 10 points.
Prior to the game, the women's basketball team recognized its seven seniors as a part of Senior Day as well as Play4K, continuing the fight against cancer.
West Chester will play its last home game of the regular season against Cheyney this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
