West Chester Diamondmen Pick Up Pair Of Wins At Baseball Challenge

DINWIDDIE, Va. - West Chester University picked up a pair of wins at the Division II Baseball Challenge in Dinwiddie, Va., Saturday afternoon to move its season-opening winning streak to three straight. The Golden Rams topped St. Thomas Aquinas, 7-1, in the morning, before taking down fellow PSAC rival Slippery Rock, 16-3, in the afternoon.

West Chester (3-0) got a win from left-hander Nick Stallings (1-0) in the first game while Mike O'Neill (1) registered his first save of the season. Anthony Salomone hit his first home run of the year to highlight the offense. In the nightcap, Mike Cipolla (1-0) picked up the win on the hill while Bill Ford went deep. The Golden Rams were able to break the game open late, after forcing Slippery Rock to go deep into its bullpen.

West Chester will now play PSAC East foe East Stroudsburg Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Shepherd Stadium in Dinwiddie for its final game of the Division II Baseball Challenge.
