Majesta Valentine (Wilmington, Del.) posted a first place all-around score of 38.875 to lead the West Chester gymnastics team to a third place finish.
WCU (10-2) placed third of five teams, finishing within a half point of Division I opponents Temple University and The College of William & Mary. WCU scored a 190.975. William & Mary won the meet with a 191.375. Host Temple finished second with a score of 191.175. Southern Connecticut State University (188.850) and Ursinus College (187.700) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. The 190.975 marked WCU's highest road score for the season.
WCU began the competition by setting a new team record on the uneven bars with a score of 48.225. Senior
Meghan Brannon (Seminole, Fla.) led the Rams and finished third among all competitors scoring a 9.775. Valentine scored a 9.75 and senior
Alyssa Hult (Fremont, N.H.) scored a 9.600 on the bars.
On the balance beam, the West Chester gymnasts scored a 47.000. Majesta Valentine and
Selena Swanger (Gettysburg, Pa.) had the top beam scores for WCU. Valentine tied for second on the beam with a score of 9.625. Swanger scored a 9.600 resulting in a third place finish on the beam. Freshman
Emily Loughery (Telford, Pa.) notched a 9.7000 with her exhibition routine.
West Chester's 48.175 on the floor exercise tied for the best team floor score. Majesta Valentine (9.725), Selena Swanger (9.650), and Emily Loughery (9.625) were the top floor exercise scores for WCU.
On the vault, WCU scored a 47.575. Valentine's 9.775 on the vault was the top score among all competitors.
Maia Curry (Erdenheim, Pa.) scored a 9.550.
The Golden Rams return to action on Saturday, Feb. 13 in New Haven, Ct. West Chester will take on Yale University and Rhode Island College at 1 PM.
