WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The West Chester University women's gymnastics team fell to Division I Cornell University on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. The Golden Rams recognized their four seniors at the conclusion of the dual meet:
Meghan Brannon (Seminole, Fla.), Alyssa Hult (Fremont, N.H.), Lindsay Knapp (Collegeville, Pa.), and
Cecelia Lorenzen (Windsor, Pa.).WCU (14-9) began the meet on the vault.
Majesta Valentine (Wilmington, De.) won the event scoring a 9.750. Freshman
Maia Curry (Erdenheim, Pa.) finished third on the vault with a 9.700.
Linday Mathis (Waldorf, Md.), Samantha Engle (Beaver Falls, Pa.), and
Selena Swanger (Gettysburg, Pa.) all scored 9.625's on the apparatus, resulting in a 48.325 team vault score.
The Golden Rams scored a 48.025 on the uneven parallel bars. Brannon led the way for WCU with a 9.700, which finished second among all gymnasts. Valentine scored a 9.650 and was third overall on the bars.
In the Golden Rams third rotation, a new WCU event record was set on the beam. The WCU gymnasts combined to score a 48.375 on the apparatus. Valentine led the way and finished second overall with a 9.775. Freshman
Emily Loughery (Telford, Pa.) scored a 9.700 and finished fourth among all gymnasts.
WCU's final rotation of the day came on the floor exercise where they finished with a 47.275 team score. Valentine's 9.825 led all gymnasts. Swanger finished fourth on the floor scoring a 9.675.
Valentine won the all-around completion scoring a 39.000. Swanger finished third in the all-around with a 38.575. The 38.575 was also a new personal best for Swanger in the all-around.
WCU's final team score of 192.000 fell just shy of Cornell's final team score of 192.350.
West Chester travels to Bridgeport, Ct. next Saturday for the ECAC Championships. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
