Box Score 2 WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The West Chester University baseball team split its PSAC East doubleheader at Serpico Stadium Friday afternoon. The Golden Rams won game one, 14-9, before falling, 12-3, in game two to Shippensburg.
Shane Dressler (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) smacked his second and third home runs of the year en route to a 4-for-5, seven RBI day for the Golden Rams (10-4, 1-1 PSAC East). He hit a grand slam in game one that put West Chester out in front, 7-0. Through 14 games, Dressler is WCU's leading hitter, sporting a .383 batting average.
Five WCU batters collected multi-hit games in the first game of the day.
Nick Ward (Unionville, Pa./Unionville) went 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs and a run scored. Hitting in the leadoff spot,
Drew Diehl (Unionville, Pa./Unionville) scored four of the Golden Rams' game one runs. Diehl went 2-for-4 and added two RBI. Both
Anthony Salomone (Dillsburg, Pa./North York) and
Bill Ford (Parkside, Pa./Malvern Prep) went 2-for-4 and crossed the plate twice.
Dalton Reed (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) picked up the win and improved to 3-1 on the season. In 4.1 innings of work, Reed scattered nine hits and allowed three earned runs.
With a 9-8 WCU lead in the sixth inning of game one,
Mike O'Neil (Brick, N.J./Brick Twp Memorial) entered and pitched the final 1.1 innings, earning his fifth save of the season.
WCU and Shippensburg (10-4, 1-1 PSAC East) were tied 3-3 through an inning of game two. However, Shippensburg scored nine unanswered runs throughout the rest of the game.
After the first inning, Shippensburg's Marcus Shippey settled in and threw a complete game, striking out 11 WCU batters.
Mike Cipolla (Newark, De./Charter School of Wilmington) suffered the loss in game two for West Chester. Cipolla (3-1) threw five innings and allowed five earned runs.
West Chester will travel to Shippensburg tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Fairchild Field.
