Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader From Pace

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - West Chester got a pair of good pitching performances and timely hitting to sweep a non-league doubleheader from Pace University during the team's annual Spring Break trip to Florida Sunday.

West Chester (5-1) picked up a 2-1 win behind the crafty arm of lefty Nick Stallings (2-0) in the opener, and then pulled out a 5-3 verdict in the second game as Mike Cipolla (2-0) got win No. 2 on the year.

Mike O'Neill registered the save in relief in game one while Josh McClain got the save in the nightcap.

In the opener, West Chester plated both its runs in the bottom of the second inning when Nick Bateman led off with a double. Anthony Salomone later singled him home, and then Drew Diehl doubled home Salomone for all the runs Stallings would need. Stallings lasted 5.2 innings, scattering six hits and allowing just one unearned run. He walked a batter and struck out three.

West Chester is off Monday and will continue its southern swing on Tuesday with a single game against Minnesota-Mankato.
