Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, Fla. - It was a tale of two completely opposite games as West Chester University split a doubleheader with PSAC West foe Slippery Rock Wednesday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park during the team's southern swing on Spring Break.
West Chester (8-2) claimed game one, 15-0, banging out 13 hits and yielding Slippery Rock (4-12) to just three. However, in the nightcap, it was The Rock that scored 17 runs on 20 hits and surrendered just three base knocks to the Golden Rams in a 17-1 victory. THe loss was the first suffered by West Chester down south and ended a five-game winning streak by the Rams.

Andrew Gernert (Kutztown, Pa./Lenhartsville) (1-0) earned his first win of the season in game one. He started on the hill and threw six strong innings, allowing just a pair of hits while walking two and striking out eight. Alex Gouveia pitched the seventh, allowing one hit and stirking out one.
Shane Dressler (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) went 3-for-4 in the opener with a 3-run homer and finished with four RBI.
Rob Knox (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) was also 3-for-4 with a solo shot. Both of those home runs came during a four-run fifth inning that staked West Chester to a 6-0 lead. The Golden Rams tacked on eight in the top of the seventh inning, highlighted by a two-run blast off the bat of
Joe Sheeran (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and a two-run double by
Clay Harwick (Lansdale, Pa./Methacton). Sheeran finished with a pair of hits in the win as well.
In game two, five West Chester pitchers paraded to the mound, but none could hold back Slippery Rock.
Eddy Albertson (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) (0-1) suffered the loss. He lasted just 1.1 innings.
Nick Ward (Unionville, Pa./Unionville) homered for the Rams' only run of the contest. However, The Rock scored multiple runs in each of the first six innings of the game to outdistance the Golden Rams.
West Chester concludes its southern trip Thursday morning against Slippery Rock at 9 a.m.
