BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - West Chester University senior offensive lineman,
Doug Gilbert (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) was named second-team preseason All-America by
Lindy's Sports magazine, which is on sale now at local bookstores.
Lindy's, "America's leading Football Authority," listed Gilbert among the top returning offensive linemen in Division II in its national 2016 preview edition of the upcoming college football season.
Gilbert is coming off a spectacular junior season in which he and the Golden Rams won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's Eastern Division title and played in the 2015 PSAC Championship Game. Gilbert, the starting left tackle for West Chester over the last two seasons, enters his final year of college with a trophy case full of awards and accolades. He was recognized as an All-Super Region 1 offensive lineman by two separate organizations after the 2015 campaign while also wrapping up first team All-ECAC honors and first team All-PSAC East plaudits for the second straight time. West Chester ranked sixth in the conference in both rushing offense and passing offense. Running backs Brandon Monk and Jarel Elder combined to rush for over 1,000 yards and 17 touchdowns.
In 2014, Gilbert was the starting left tackle on a line that blocked for the school's all-time leading rusher, Rondell White, who set a single-season record with 1,989 rushing yards that fall. The 6-4, 345-lbs., lineman does all of this while maintaing a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average in Criminal Justice in the classroom, and he has also been nominated for the 2016 AllState Good Works Team for his efforts in various community service projects throughout his college career.
