Three Different Goal Scorers Propel West Chester to Season Opening Win, 3-0

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – A pair of second-half goals proved to be all the insurance host West Chester needed as the Golden Rams cruised to a season-opening 3-0 victory over visiting Philadelphia University Thursday afternoon at Rockwell Field.

West Chester opened the season with a win for the first time since 2011 while picking up points for the first time since 2013. Senior Miguel Ross (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) scored the third goal of the game, moving past John McGlone into sixth place on the school's all-time points list with 54 and tying both Adam Smith and Conor Malarney for second all-time in career goals with his 24th tally.

James Wood (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) recorded three saves for his second career shutout.

Jason Pixley (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) opened the scoring in the 28th minute when he directed a beautiful cross from Nicholas Meola (Avondale, Pa./Kennett) from about 40 yards out along the far sideline into the upper right corner of the net.

Matt Canis (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) added insurance in the 76th minute with his first career goal, and Ross banged home a rebound of his own shot in the 88th minute to salt away the game.

West Chester held a 12-7 advantage in shots.

The Golden Rams hit the road Saturday when they open PSAC play at Pitt-Johnstown.
