SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. A goal by junior midfielder
Colin Hester (Camp hill, Pa./Camp Hill) was the deciding factor that gave West Chester University a 3-2 overtime win over Shippensburg University at David See Field this afternoon.
Hester headed the ball in from 5 yards out at 98:03 for his first score of the year.
The win lifts the Golden Rams to (5-2-1, 4-1 PSAC), while the Red Raiders fell to (5-3, 2-3 PSAC).
Freshman midfielder
Brett Miller (Washington Crossing, Pa./Council Rock North) gave the Golden Rams an early lead with an unassisted goal at the 17:44 mark. It was Miller's second score of the season.
The Raiders' Colten Arnold tied the game at 47:50, off a free kick.
Senior midfielder
Brian Schaefer (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) put West Chester back in front with a header at 69:02, but Jake Shefsky hit on a free kick at 79:29 to tie it at two apiece. Receving an assist on the play for the Golden Rams was
Kyle Hoops (Phoenixville, Pa. / Great Valley).
The Golden Rams were dominant in shots with a 17-6 advantage. West Chester also held a 6-1 lead in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper
James Wood (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) picked up the win without recording a save. Garret Watson recorded five saves for the Raiders in defeat.
The Golden Rams will host the Millersville Marauders at Rockwell Field on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
