West Chester Football Opens PSAC Slate With 37-7 Win Over Lock Haven

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Sr., QB Andrew Derr (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin) threw three touchdown passes and ran for another pair to lead host West Chester to a 37-7 victory over visiting Lock Haven Saturday night at Farrell Stadium.

West Chester (2-2, 1-0 PSAC) opened its PSAC slate with a convincing win and another stellar second-half performance. Lock Haven (0-4, 0-1) trailed by just 16 at thel half, but could only muster 242 yards of total offense for the game and could not get on the scoreboard until the fourth quarter.

Derr finished 21-for-36 for 294 yards and three TDs while rushing for another 50 yards and two touchdowns. In addition to Derr's 344 total yards from scrimmage, Jr., RB Jarel Elder (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) put up 169 all-purpose yards with 87 rushing yards, 59 yards in kickoff returns and another 23 yards receiving. So., WR Jordan Banks (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Twp.) caught five passes for 113 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jr., WR Tyler Karpinski (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) caught eight passes for 75 yards as well.

West Chester, which averages 362 yards of total offense in the second half through four games, put up 345 in the final 30 minutes on Saturday, as opposed to its 158 yards in the first half. The difference was that the Golden Rams led at the break for the first time this season. For the game, West Chester posted 503 yards of total offense, marking the third straight game in which head coach Bill Zwaan's charges racked up at least 500 yards of offense in a game.

Steven Denby (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) and Kyle Keyser (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) led the team defensively with six tackles each. Josh Ganzelli (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) recorded 1.5 sacks on the night. Kevin Malone (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic) finished with four tackles, a fumble recovery and a pair of pass breakups. West Chester broke up nine passes in all on the evening and added one interception just before halftime.

West Chester heads to Kutztown next Saturday for a 6:05 kickoff with the Golden Bears at Andre Reed Stadium.
