CALDWELL, N.J. - West Chester University's women's tennis team opened its dual match schedule Tuesday with a 9-0 shutout over host Caldwell College.
West Chester claimed the three doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead.
Claire Uhle (Blue Bell, Pa./Wisahickon) won by default at first singles, and then the second, third and fourth singles all won in straight sets to secure the match. Fifth and sixth singles were played in tie-breaker format because the outcome of the match was already decided.
Maddy Shaak (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon County) was a 6-3, 6-0 winner to clinch the match at second singles.
Rylee Power (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) was a 6-0. 6-4 winner at third singles while
Abriana Nolan (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at fourth singles.
Sophie Rathmell (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) was an 8-1 winner at fifth singles, and
Steph Cifarelli (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) was an 8-0 winner at sixth singles.
Uhle and Shaak teamed up at first doubles for an 8-1 win. Power and
Gracyn Towler (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) were 9-7 winners at second doubles while Rathmell and
Alyssa Rees (Morgantown, W.Va./University) were 8-0 winners at third doubles.
Tuesday's non-conference tilt was a warm-up for the PSAC Individual Championships, which will take place at Bloomsburg University this weekend.
