COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – West Chester senior
Majesta Valentine (Wilmington, Del.) swept all four events, setting a school record on the floor exercise, as the Golden Rams' lady gymnasts opened the 2017 campaign with a 191.050-186.875 victory over host Ursinus Thursday evening.

Valentine posted a score of 9.9 on the floor to establish a new school mark. Teammates
Emily Loughery (Telford, Pa.) and
Selena Swanger (Gettysburg, Pa.) came in right behind her with scores of 9.55 each.

The floor exercise was the culmination of a meet that lifted the lid on a very promising season ahead.

"Two freshmen really set the tone for the meet hitting their routines on bars. I was really proud of those two freshmen," ninth-year head coach Barbara Cordova mentioned after the meet. "This was our strongest start ever ."

Isabella D'Orazio (Limerick, Pa.) scored a 9.35 while
Jordan Miranda (Winchester, Mass.) notched a 9.3 to lead off the meet.
Myranda Marshall (Lancaster, Pa.) followed with a 9.475 that tied for second while Valentine anchored the event with a winning score of 9.6.

From there, West Chester swept the top five spots on the vault, including Valentine's winning score of 9.75. Swanger was second with a 9.575, and
Meghan Chan (Northvale, N.J.) was third with a 9.55.

The Golden Rams totaled a score of 48.6 on the balance beam to break another school record. Valentine and Swanger went one and two in that event as well. Valentine scored a 9.85 while Swanger posted a 9.775 to cap off the record-setting performance.

Valentine's all-around score was the high for the meet as well (39.1).

West Chester returns to action on Sunday when the Golden Rams travel to New Haven, Conn., for a tri-meet with ECAC rival Southern Connecticut State and SUNY-Cortland. That meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
