Field Hockey Prepares for PSAC Tournament Tuesday Afternoon

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University hosts Bloomsburg University Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. in a quarterfinal round matchup in the 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Field Hockey Tournament at Vonnie Gros Field.
 
No. 7 West Chester (12-6, 6-4 PSAC) claimed the fourth seed in the postseason tournament as they ride a three-game winning streak into Tuesday's contest.
 
On the opposing sidelines, the Bloomsburg Huskies (10-8, 6-4 PSAC) finished as the fifth seed. They are coming off a 3-1 victory over Seton Hill on Saturday.
 
Tickets to all PSAC tournament games are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Any student from a PSAC member institution with a valid university ID, will be admitted free of charge. There are no complimentary tickets available, and only PSAC passes will be honored. Parking will be limited as classes are in session in addition to other events happening on campus. We strongly encourage those attending to carpool.
 
West Chester and Bloomsburg have met twice this season already. The Golden Rams won both of the meetings by a combined 8-2 margin. Early in the season, Bloomsburg came to Vonnie Gros for the first meeting, and West Chester prevailed by a final score of 5-1. The second contest was on the road, resulting in a 3-1 Golden Rams' victory that was crucial in the standings.
 
Sr., F Rachal Toppi (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) and Kaitlin Hatch (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) are players to watch for the Golden Rams as they have both had strong 2017 campaigns, accounting for 32 goals, 14 assists, and 78 points. Hatch has been on a hot streak as of late, scoring seven goals, and three assists for 17 points over her last five games. Toppi registered a hat trick in the regular-season finale.
 
West Chester is 7-4 in the PSAC tournament since making the move to NCAA Division II in the 2011 season. The squad has registered a pair of conference titles in 2012 and 2014. Meanwhile, Bloomsburg has captured 18 conference titles in its program history.
 
The two teams met just once before in the PSAC Tournament back in 1983. The Huskies won the PSAC Championship game over the Golden Rams that year by a final of score of 1-0.
 
A year ago West Chester saw its PSAC postseason run come to an end at the hands of Shippensburg in the PSAC semifinals as they fell by a score of 2-1.
 
Earning first round byes were No. 1 Shippensburg and No 2. Millersville. The PSAC semifinals and championship game will be played at Shippensburg on Friday November 3rd and Sunday November 5th.
 
The PSAC championship game will be played on Sunday the 5th getting underway at 1 p.m.
