Five Records Fall As West Chester Downs Springfield

Meet Results

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Five records came crumbling down Saturday afternoon inside Sturzebecker HSC as host West Chester defeated visiting Springfield, 194.4-189.3 in a non-league women's gymnastics dual meet.

West Chester (5-3) posted an all-time high 194.4 team score on Saturday, marking the second time this season that the Golden Rams scored better than 193. The Rams also set new standards on the uneven parallel bars and the balance beam while Majesta Valentine (Wilmington, Del.) broke one of her own school records and tied another.

Valentine scored a 39.3 in the all-around to smash her own previous mark while her 9.85 on the beam equaled her school record. Valentine ended up winning all four events Saturday. She tied for first on the bars and won the other three outright.

In all, West Chester claimed the top three spots on the vault, the top four on the bars, top five on the beam and the top six on the floor.

Meghan Chan (Northvale, N.J.) and Myranda Marshall (Lancaster, Pa.) were the other two Golden Rams, who tied Valentine for first on the uneven bars. All three competitors scored a 9.75. Chan added a 9.8 on the balance beam to finish third. Teammate Sarah Boyd (St. Petersburg, Fla.) scored a 9.825 to finish runner-up to Valentine's record-setting performance.

Bella D'Orazio (Limerick, Pa.) was fourth on the bars behind the Golden Rams' triple winners. She scored a 9.725 to finish right behind Valentine, Chan and Marshall.

Saturday marked Alumni Day for the women's gymnastics program as 49 former Golden Rams gymnasts stuffed Sturzebecker HSC to support the 2017 edition of the purple & gold gymnasts.

West Chester will be back in action next Saturday in Upstate New York as the Golden Rams travel to Ithaca, N.Y. to take on Cornell University.
