Women's Basketball Drops Heartbreaker At Lock Haven, 62-57

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Fourth-quarter shooting woes helped host Lock Haven inch past visiting West Chester 62-57, inside Thomas Field House Saturday afternoon.
 
West Chester (9-15, 9-11 PSAC) remains in third place in the PSAC Eastern Division standings thanks to East Stroudsburg defeating Bloomsburg. The Huskies are now 8-12 and tied for fifth place with Kutztown, who defeated Millersville on Saturday to improve to 8-12 as well.
 
Head coach Kiera Wooden's squad shot a lowly 28.1 from the floor (18- for- 64) and 38.9 percent from behind the arc (7-for-18), but still managed to have the lead by the end of the third quarter, 51-47. However, six points during the fourth was not enough to hold off the Lady Eagles.
 
West Chester found itself leading 29-27 at the half as junior Porscha Speller (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) produced a game-high 17 points to go along with four assist and four rebounds. She was also shooting at 66 percent from behind the arc (4-for-6).
 
Senior Forward Mariah Traywick (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford) also added seven points as well as seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Red-shirt freshman Rylee Power (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) got into the action as she produced nine points for the Golden Rams, while freshman guard Gabrielle Troisi (Norristown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) added six points for the afternoon.
 
Lock Haven's Lysa Mealing produced a double- double as she added 17 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Kayla Henderson also contributed with 12 points while Maimuna Kenneh produced nine points, and Rileigh Devine contributed to eight in this afternoons victory against West Chester.
 
West Chester hits the road on Wednesday for a PSAC East matchup at Millersville inside Pucillo Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
