West Chester Gymnasts Finish Third At Pink Invitational

Meet Results

PHILADELPHIA  – Majesta Valentine (Wilmington, Del.) won the balance beam and the floor exercise on her way to the all-around victory as West Chester's women's gymnastics squad finished third at the Pink Invitational held inside the Philadelphia Convention Center Friday evening.

Valentine, ranked 21st in the Northeast Region entering the week, did not disappoint in besting Maryland's Kirsten Peterman. Valentine's 39.3 was enough to overcome Peterman's 39.025. They were the only two competitors with a score better than 39 in the all-around.

Maryland won the quad meet with a score of 195.225 while Temple was runner-up with a 193.900. West Chester scored a 193.600, and Southern Connecticut State scored a 191.275.

Her 9.925 was good enough to tie Maryland's Alecia Farina for the top spot on the floor. The next four positions were all occupied by the representatives from the Big Ten. Valentine's 9.875 beat out Peterman again (9.825) on the floor.

Valentine finished runner-up on vault and fifth on the uneven bars. Myranda Marshall (Lancaster, Pa.) tied for eighth on the bars with a 9.725.

Meghan Chan (Northvale, N.J.) tied for eighth on the beam with a score of 9.75 while Madi Brent (Waxhaw, N.C.) tied for seventh on the floor exercise with a 9.85. Teammates Selena Swanger (Gettysburg, Pa.) and Emily Loughery (Telford, Pa.) were right behind her with a 9.8.

West Chester returns to the gym on March 1 with a quad meet at Maryland with Temple and New Hampshire.
