DINWIDDIE, Va. – Jon Fisher threw a complete-game three-hitter in the first game of a doubleheader with Slippery Rock to lead West Chester to a split of the two non-league games at the Division II Baseball Challenge in Dinwiddie, Va. Saturday.

West Chester (2-1) took game one of the twinbill, 9-1, while Slippery Rock (2-1) got game two, 2-1.

Fisher allowed just one unearned run while walking three and striking out seven to pick up his first win in a West Chester uniform.

Jared Melone finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and a double in game one. Nick Ward was and Corey Webb each went 2-for-4 as well with Ward knocking in one run and scoring a pair, and Webb knocking in two runs and scoring another.

The Golden Rams jumped on top early with three in the top of the first. They then followed with a five-run fourth to open things up. The Rams tacked on one more in the fifth, before Slipper Rock ruined Fisher's shutout with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

In the nightcap, Slippery Rock scored twice in the third inning. West Chester responded with one in the fourth. But, The Rock held on the rest of the way to earn the split.

Ward went 2-for-2 in the second game while Shane Dressler was 2-for-3. Joe Sheeran had the Golden Rams' lone RBI in the night cap.

Mike Cipolla (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound. He lasted six innings, surrendering six hits and two runs, only one of them earned. He did not walk a batter and struck out five.
