WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University administration Tuesday announced that Terry Beattie will assume the role of interim athletics director June 27 when current Director of Athletics, Dr. Edward Matejkovic retires. Matejkovic announced his retirement from West Chester University Feb. 20. His last day will be June 26.
Â
A national search for a permanent Director of Athletics will take place in the fall with the hopes of having the next AD named by the spring semester. Beattie will be in the role of interim AD from June 2017 until a permanent athletics director is identified.
Â
"I am very appreciative of this opportunity, and I look forward to serving our student-athletes, our department and our University for as long as I am in this new role," Beattie said. "Having worked with Dr. Matejkovic for over 12 years, I have grown tremendously as a professional under his leadership and thank him for preparing me for this interim role. "I would also like to thank President Fiorentino and Vice President Davenport for their support and for placing their trust in me. I know that I will have large shoes to fill, but I am confident that together - with the coaches, staff and administrators here at WCU - that we can continue to build upon the tremendous success we have enjoyed athletically, academically and within the community. "
Â
Beattie is in his 13th year serving West Chester University as its Associate AD overseeing facilities, and facility rentals, and game management. He also oversees the grounds and equipment room management in his current role.
Â
"In my short time at West Chester University, it is clear that Terry has an unbridled passion for Golden Rams athletics," Vice-President, Dr. Zebulon Davenport said. "I am sure that he is excited to take on this new challenge and will serve the department and the University with dignity and pride for as long as he is in this role."
Â
"Terry has always been loyal to West Chester University, and he has always shown an extraordinary commitment to the values of both the University's and the athletic department's mission statement," Matejkovic said. "I can't think of anybody more deserving of this opportunity. He has earned this shot to show the school administration what he can do."
