No. 14 West Chester Splits Twinbill With Bloomsburg

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Shane Dressler's (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) RBI single in the top of the seventh inning of game two helped visiting West Chester manage a split with homestanding Bloomsburg in a PSAC East baseball doubleheader Saturday.

West Chester (24-7, 14-4 PSAC East) took the nightcap, 5-4, by virtue of that unearned run in the seventh. Bloomsburg (21-17-1, 8-9-1) won the opener, 4-3.

Nick Ward (Unionville, Pa./Unionville) hit a fly ball to right field with one out in the seventh that was dropped, allowing Ward to race around to second. Jared Melone (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) then hit a grounder to short, that the Huskies' shortstop threw away, enabling Ward to run to third. Dressler followed with a single that plated Ward with the go-ahead run.

Josh McClain (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) pitched the final 2.1 innings to pick up his team-leading sixth win of the year, against zero losses. He allowed a pair of runs on four hits and struck out two.

Joe Sheeran (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI in the nightcap. Anthony Salomone (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) also went 2-for-3.

In the opener, West Chester scored one run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to cut a 4-0 deficit down to one. However, the Golden Rams could not get the equalizer.

Dressler homered and finished with a pair of RBI.

Jon Fisher (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) went the distance on the hill. He allowed four runs on six hits. He walked four and struck out six. Fisher fell to 4-2 on the year.

The two teams will travel back to West Chester to complete their four-game weekend series at Serpico Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
