Women's Tennis Opens NCAA Tournament Play Monday Afternoon

ERIE, Pa. - West Chester University's women's tennis squad is set to take on University of Charleston (WV) Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships.

West Chester (14-3) is the sixth seed in the Atlantic Region while Charleston is the third seed out of the Mountain East Conference. The Golden Rams are making just their second NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 1983 - ending a 34-year drought on the national stage. West Chester lost its only other NCAA Tournament match to Notre Dame in 1983.

This year's senior class is the winningest group to come through West Chester in school history. Their win over Millersville in the regular-season finale was the 50th career victory for this special contingent. They boast a four-year record of 50-27 overall, but more stunningly a 22-1 mark in PSAC East play. They hand off a 21-match winning streak against Eastern Division opponents to next year's group.

West Chester is no stranger to Charleston. The two schools have met each of the past three years down south in Florida with Charleston coming out on top each time - including an 8-1 decision this past March.
