Philadelphia, Pa. – West Chester University's women's tennis team continued its shutout streak by defeating non-league opponent Holy Family University, 9-0, on a lovely Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (13-2), who is currently ranked eighth in the ITA Atlantic Region Polls, has seven consecutive shutouts this season since facing Philadelphia University on March 21.
Claire Uhle (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon),
Maddy Shaak (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon County),
Rylee Power (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown),
Abriana Nolan (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) and
Steph Cifarelli (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) were all double winners for the Golden Rams as well as taking their singles matches and doubles competitions.
Uhle, who is currently ranked ninth in the ITA Atlantic Region rankings, partnered with fellow teammate Shaak, who is ranked 16, to defeat their opponent 8-0 in the first doubles. Power and
Grace Towler (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) were victorious throughout the second match with a 8-2 win while Nolan and Cifarelli were 8-2 winners.
All six singles matches were straight-set wins for the Golden Rams. Powers' 6-4, 6-2 win during the third singles was the clinching of the match. Uhle and Shaak would win the first and second match 6-2, 6-1 while Nolan would take control of the fourth match 6-1, 6-1.Cifarelli was an 8-4 winner at fifth singles while
Alyssa Rees (Morgantown, WV/University) earned an 8-2 verdcict at sixth singles.
West Chester will close out the regular season as it travels to Millersville on Thursday for a PSAC East contest.
