Shane Dressler Named 2nd Team All-America By ABCA

GREENSBORO, N.C. – West Chester University junior designated hitter, Shane Dressler (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) was named a second team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches' Association (ABCA) it was announced Tuesday afternoon.

Dressler is currently leading West Chester in hitting with a .380 batting average (73-for-192) with 20 doubles, three triples and four home runs while knocking in 40 this year. He leads the Golden Rams into action at the NCAA Division II National Championships on Thursday evening. West Chester won its first two games at the national finals and will be one of only four teams left in the double-elimination tournament when they take the field Thursday night.

Dressler is the first ABCA All-America honoree from West Chester since Joey Wendle and Joe Gunkel in 2012. Wendle was a first-team All-American at second base while Gunkel was a second team pick on the mound the year the Golden Rams won the NCAA Division II title. Dressler is two wins away from helping West Chester accomplish that same feat this spring.

Dressler has flirted with .400 all season long, and his 20 doubles is the second-most in a single season in school history. He is 2-for-7 in West Chester's first two games at the national finals in Grand Prairie, Texas. He has two runs scored and a sacrifice bunt to his credit. He has also walked once.

ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first-team selections, which were announced last Wednesday, were nominated for All-America honors. In all divisions, the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Teams will be announced on Wednesday, June 21, and the ABCA Players of the Year will be announced Wednesday, June 28.

The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
