Volleyball Downs Goldey-Beacom in Straight Sets


KUTZTOWN, Pa. - West Chester University women's volleyball team (10-1, 1-0 PSAC) played its final game at the Kutztown tournament Saturday afternoon, downing Goldey-Beacom College (2-7) in straight sets (25-18,25-17,25-20).

How it Happened:
  • West Chester trailed early, but they came back to make the score 7-6 in the first set. The Golden Rams took off from this point and went on to win the first set 25-18.
  • In the second set, the squad jumped out to a 7-2 advantage thanks in large part to a strong serving performance from Alex Gleason (Landenberg, Pa. / Kennett).The Golden Rams took the second set easily by a score of 25-17.
  • Both sides played a tight third set, but West Chester would ultimately prevail 25-20.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Abbie Dischert (Wilmington, DE. / Concord) and Amy Kovacs (Allentown, Pa. / Allentown Central Catholic) combined for a match best 10 kills apiece.
  • Jillian Grammer (Center Valley, Pa. / Southern Lehigh) had another good match as she provided 29 assists to go along with nine digs.
  • Nicki Yates (Coopersburg, Pa. / Southern Lehigh) worked hard once again as she compiled a match best 18 digs on defense for the Golden Rams. Yates also served very well in this match as she turned in a match best four aces.
  • The Golden Rams hit.218 for the match while holding Goldey-Beacom to a hitting percentage of just .120.
  • The Golden Rams are now 2-0 against Goldey-Beacom this season after winning the first meeting earlier in September.

Up Next:
The Golden Rams are back in action next Friday evening when they host California (Pa.) in a 7 p.m. match in a location to be determined.
