Volleyball Drops Second Straight in 3-1 Loss at Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Looking to bounce back from a 3-2 defeat against Shepherd on Tuesday, the West Chester University volleyball team headed to the Keystone Arena on Friday night to square off against Kutztown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Southeast division showdown. Hampered by a season-high 33 errors, the Golden Rams dropped a 3-1 decision to the Golden Bears on Friday night to mark the first time this season that WCU had lost consecutive matches.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Down 0-1 in the match, West Chester (17-5, 6-4 PSAC) was able to weather a late charge by Golden Bears (8-11, 2-8 PSAC) to take the second frame, 25-21.
  • The Golden Rams were only able to record a -.051 hitting percentage in a 25-16 loss in set three, and although it logged its highest hitting percentage (.206) in the fourth stanza, West Chester took the 25-20 defeat in the fourth-and-deciding set.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • West Chester's .068 hitting percentage on Friday was the second lowest for the Golden Rams this year.
  • Friday's loss marked the first time since the 2012 season that the Golden Rams fell to Kutztown.
  • WCU's 13 total blocks against KU were a season-high for the Golden Rams and the most swats recorded by West Chester since the squad logged 14 blocks against Mercyhurst in October 2015.
  • Senior Jillian Grammer (CENTER VALLEY, PA./SOUTHERN LEHIGH) scooped a career-high 22 digs against the Golden Bears and added a team-high 36 assists to give the setter her 14th double-double of the season.
  • Senior Allie Duffy (CARLISLE, PA./CARLISLE) paced the WCU offensive attack with 10 kills on Friday and also added a season-high six blocks in the loss.
  • Graduate student Nicki Yates (COOPERSBURG, PA./SOUTHERN LEHIGH) notched eight digs in Friday's defeat, marking the first time in the last 36 matches (dating back to last season) that the libero failed to record at least 10 digs in a contest.
