WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The West Chester men's soccer team (10-2-3, 7-1-2 PSAC) welcomed Slippery Rock (6-9-2, 4-5-1 PSAC) to Rockwell field for a special senior-day battle. With both teams in need of a win to improve their respective playoff chances West Chester came out on top winning by a final score of 1-0.
Prior to the game West Chester honored its eight seniors in senior goalkeeper James Wood (West Chester, Pa./Henderson, Kyle Hoops (Phoenixville, Pa./Great Valley), Tyler Rapposelli (Reading, Pa./Fleetwood), Andrew Slater (Hanover, Pa./South Western), Sami Phelps (Yardley, Pa./Westtown School), Nico Meola (Avondale, Pa./Kennett), Jason Pixley (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) and graduate student Will Marshall (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny).
How it Happened:
- In what was a special senior-day connection, senior Slater took an assist from fellow senior Meola to put West Chester out in front in the 42nd minute.
- West Chester held off a hard charging Slippery Rock attack late in the game to pick up crucial 1-0 victory, which will help the Golden Rams to improve their positioning in the standings
Inside the Numbers:
- West Chester out shot its guests by a 17-8 margin including a 10-7 edge in shots on goal. West Chester also ended the contest with a commanding 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
- Marshall got the start in goal and the victory making four great saves in his 65 minutes of work. Wood made his return to the pitch this afternoon playing the final 25 minutes making three saves of his own to preserve the narrow 1-0 lead.
- This goal was Slater's first goal of the season and it was his third career goal.
