Men's Basketball Cruises to 97-34 Victory over Williamson on Wednesday

Box Score
Play-by-Play

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Sophomore Terrence Moore (PHILADELPHIA, PA./AUDRIEND) notched his first career double-double and senior Jackson Hyland (AVONDALE, PA./KENNETT) chipped in a game-high 14 points as the West Chester University men's basketball team defeated USCAA Williamson College of the Trades 97-34 in a non-conference matchup inside the Hollinger Field House on Wednesday night.

Prior to the Golden Rams' 63-point victory, Hyland and junior Malik Jackson (LANSDOWNE, PA./PENN WOOD) were presented with special  commemorative basketball by West Chester Director of Athletics Terry Beattie in recognition of both guards scoring their 1,000th career points for the Purple and Gold this season. It did not take senior Frank Rokins (PLAINFIELD, N.J./ST. MARY'S) long to add his name alongside Hyland and Jackson in the 1,000-point club, as a jump shot by the forward early in the first half of Wednesday blowout win put the Plainfield native over the 1,000-point plateau - that takes into account his junior college totals and his 36 games as a Golden Ram.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Golden Rams defense held the Mechanics to just 20% shooting in the first 20 minutes of action, which led to Williamson only scoring 16 total points. Wednesday's game marks the third game in a row that West Chester held its opponents to under 18 points in the first half, as Edinboro and California (Pa.) both were able to only score 17 points through the first 20 minutes of action last weekend.
  • The Mechanics did not fare much better in the second half, as Williamson only put up 18 points in the frame while logging more turnovers (12) than total rebounds (8).

WEST CHESTER RUNDOWN
  • Entering the game as the top rebounding team in the country, the Golden Rams completely dominated the glass on Wednesday night, pulling down 57 total boards compared to just 17 by their opponents for an eye-popping +40 rebounding margin.
  • WCU shot 52% (42-of-81) from the field and 30% (9-of-30) from beyond the arc in the victory, and the Golden Rams notched a +17 (24-7) margin in assists and forced 12 more turnovers (22-10) than they committed.
  • Sophomore Evan-Eric Longino (FURLONG, PA./GERMANTOWN ACADEMY) (11) and freshman Nick Alikakos  (WEST CHESTER, PA./THE HILL SCHOOL ) (10) both finished in double-figures off the bench, and Rokins added eight points, five boards, three assists and two steals in limited minutes.

WILLIAMSON NOTES
  • Gus Pagan paced the under-manned Mechanics with 14 points in the loss, while Ryan Tobin and Nazhir Goldston each added seven points on Wednesday night.

UP NEXT
