DINWIDDIE, Va. - West Chester University's baseball team dropped its 2018 season opener to College of Saint Rose, 4-1, Friday afternoon at Shepherd Stadium.

West Chester (0-1) received one hit from four different players, but it was not enough to overcome Saint Rose (1-0), which rapped out eight hits and scored a single tally in the first, second, sixth and eighth to pick up the win.

Jared Melone (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) hit a RBI groundout in the first inning to score
Joey Coyle (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum), who had reached on an error, with the Golden Rams lone run. It gave the visitors a short-lived, one-run lead.

Jon Fisher (0-1) started and lasted 5.2 innings. He allowed three runs on six hits. He walked three and struck out six. Tim Edwards came on and went the rest of the way, surrendering one unearned run on two hits while striking out three.
