INDIANA, Pa. - The West Chester University women's tennis team headed west on Saturday afternoon to square off against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division opponent Indiana University (Pa.) at the Maple Street Courts.
Despite some great individual efforts, the Golden Rams fell to the seasoned Crimson Hawks 9-0 on Saturday to push WCU's current losing streak to six matches.
The defeat drops the Golden Rams to 2-6 overall, while IUP improves to 8-3 following the PSAC crossover victory.
The freshmen tandem of
Leandra Roelker (Allentown, Pa. / Salisbury) and Eliana Rochford
(West Chester, Pa. / Henderson) dropped the first doubles match 8-1 at second position, before the duo of junior
Rylee Power (Newtown Square, Pa / Marple Newtown) and freshman
Shannon Nixon (Wyncote, Pa. / Cheltenham) fell at first flight, 8-2. Finally, the team of freshman
Julia Mowrey (Bethlehem, Pa. / Notre Dame) and junior
Sofia Von Der Heyde (Exton, Pa. / Great Valley) dropped third position 8-4, to send West Chester into singles play trailing by three.
The host Crimson Hawks were even more impressive in singles action, as the team took every set from West Chester and held the Golden Rams to just 14 points across the six matches.
West Chester returns to action tomorrow, March 25, when the team heads to SRU Tennis Courts to square off against Slippery Rock at noon.
