WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The West Chester University women's tennis team put on a dominating performance on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent Shippensburg 9-0 at home in a match that the Golden Rams only surrendered two total points throughout the entirety of the contest.
Wednesday's victory pushes WCU's winning streak to three matches and brings the Golden Rams to 7-8 overall and 3-1 in conference action. Conversely, the visiting Raiders drop to 1-15 on the season and remaining winless (0-4) in the PSAC following today's defeat.
Rylee Power (Newtown Square, Pa / Marple Newtown) and
Shannon Nixon (Wyncote, Pa. / Cheltenham) got the day started with an 8-0 sweep at first position doubles, prior to the tandem of
Leandra Roelker (Allentown, Pa. / Salisbury) and
Elaina Rochford (West Chester, Pa. / Henderson) notched their seventh-straight (12th overall) doubles victory with an 8-0 triumph at position two.
Julia Mowrey (Bethlehem, Pa. / Notre Dame) and
Sofia Von der Heyde (Exton, Pa. / Great Valley) completed the clean doubles sweep for the Golden Rams on Wednesday, coming out on top 8-0 at third flight to put West Chester ahead 3-0 going into singles play.
WCU nearly kept the visiting Raiders completely off the board in the match, as the Golden Rams only surrendered two total points in singles play to grab the convincing 9-0 victory at home. Shippensburg's two points on Wednesday marked the second fewest total by a West Chester opponent (0 by Holy Family) and the sweep signaled the second for the Golden Rams in 2017-18.
WCU returns to the South Campus Courts tomorrow, April 12, to square off against PSAC foe Millersville University at 2:00 p.m.
