WCU Rolls to Fourth Straight Win, Downs Millersville 8-1

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Coming off a convincing 9-0 sweep of Shippensburg University yesterday, the West Chester University women's tennis returned to the South Campus Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon to battle Millersville University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest.

Despite being the Golden Rams' third match in the last three days, West Chester showed no sign of slowing down on Thursday, as the squad handily defeated the visiting Marauders (2-16, 1-3 PSAC) 8-1 to push WCU's (8-8, 4-1 PSAC) current winning streak to four matches. West Chester's four conference wins are the second most in the PSAC Eastern Division this season behind Bloomsburg (5-0) and the Golden Rams will head into the PSAC Tournament next week as the No. 2 seed overall in the East.

West Chester started the afternoon by running through doubles play once again, earning a win at each flight for the fourth match in a row.

Shannon Nixon (WYNCOTE, PA./CHELTENHAM) kicked off singles play with a dominating 6-0,6-0 victory at third position and Julia Mowery (BETHLEHEM, PA./NOTRE DAME) followed with an equally impressive 6-0,6-1 triumph at fifth flight to extend the home team's advantage to 5-0 in the contest. West Chester only dropped one of its final three singles matches against the Marauders, as both Leandra Roelker (ALLENTOWN, PA./SALISBURY) (6-1,6-1,) and Rylee Power (NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA/MARPLE NEWTOWN) (7-6,6-1 (10)) both notched victories at their positions to seal the 8-1 win for the Golden Rams at home on Thursday.

West Chester will take tomorrow off before hitting the road on Saturday, April 14, to take on West Virginia Wesleyan College in a key regional matchup starting at 10:00 a.m.
